Meredith & Mitch’s Wedding at The Historic Cavalier Hotel hit all of the costal classic marks in June of 2022. With an incredible vendor team we were able to take Meredith + Mitch’s vision, build a design, and work as one large team to create and execute one of my favorite weddings to date!
I started working with Meredith and Mitch just shy of a year from their wedding date with our Full Wedding Planning and Design service here in Virginia Beach. Right away we jumped on all the foundational meetings we have with our couples at this service level to begin building a design direction, and the lengthy process of sourcing the best team of vendors for their day.
When building their vendor team we took their vision as the primary pairing point. Sifting through our preferred partners list we pulled together consultations with some of Virginia Beach’s top wedding vendors and turned our focus to the fun part – our signature full design process!
When starting their design process we focused in on their color palette, pulling together a general design concept, and ensuring all the verbiage used to describe their desired aesthetic and atmosphere were spot on.
Once we established our general design concept it was time to start working on some custom sketches to share with our vendors to begin bringing our designs from concept to reality! Now, when I tell you every creative vendor NAILED the designs for Meredith & Mitch’s Wedding at The Historic Cavalier Hotel we are not exaggerating!
With our designs forming good roots we powered through the rest of our planning process and come June 18, 2023, we finally got to see it all come together!
Meredith and Mitch decided to keep their bridal party intimate by only having Meredith’s sister and brother in law as part of the formalities of the day. With that came a later start time to the morning which both loved!
Meredith, her sister, and mother spent the morning in the bridal suite of the hotel being pampered by their stylists, sipping mimosas, champagne, and enjoying excitement of the day!
As wedding days naturally do, our bride and groom began getting ready and exchanging gifts with one another and family. Every gift was so incredibly thoughtful and every single time I came up to the bridal suite or checked in on our groom and groomsman the rooms were full of so much joy, excitement, and a relaxed ease!
As my team and I continued overseeing the initial setup of the day our sweet bride and her father had their first look, and another sweet gift was given to complete Meredith’s bridal styling!
Remember all those wonderful details we were designing months prior? Well, Hope Taylor Photography spent the morning capturing all the elements we had dreamt up, put together, and brought to life for their guests to experience and enjoy!
Now, while all these wonderfully sweet moments were happening for our couple, my team as well as our vendor team were hard at work setting up their ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception spaces. Oh and did I mention that the wind was peaking around 25mph, knocking stacks of chairs onto tables, tossing ceremony chairs all around the Sunken Garden, and causing many circle up meetings to take place with our creative vendor teams and the Cavalier’s teams!?
This is the part of the wedding day story that we never tell our couple until/if it is absolutely necessary. Because Meredith and Mitch were a Full Planning and Design couple, I had been through several different variations of ceremony design with Marissa at Studio Posy that we were able to pivot to a prior design concept that unfortunately took some of the height off of our ceremony design, but still gave Meredith the overall vision she desired. I also would be insane to not mention how INCREDIBLE the team at The Cavalier truly is! Gina and Jessica (who has sadly moved from VB but we loved working with her) jumped right in when the wind picked up. We played the game of which tent walls to close up to keep the wind out of the reception space while also keeping the tent from being constantly pulled up by the wind and shaking our chandeliers and draping. These ladies helped direct their service team once I made decisions on necessary shifts for guest and functional safety and not a single person missed a step!
Because we had an INCREDIBLE vendor team, not a single detail was misplaced and with all the adjusting we needed to do, the setup portion of our execution was officially complete and it was time to marry these two wonderful people!
With these two officially husband and wife we were off to family photos and sending guests up to the garden loggia for cocktail hour being serenaded by a jazz quartet, and flowing cocktails!
While guests were enjoying cocktail hour, Meredith and Mitch kicked off their bridal portraits by digging up a bottle of Tarnished Truth from The Cavalier’s on site distillery! The tradition behind this is to burry a bottle upside down a month prior to your wedding day for good weather! Because the two were not local to Virginia Beach we rigged the system a little and the two buried it in a flower pot at home. It may be the heaviest thing I have carried on the day of a wedding but it was worth all the sweat!
With bourbon in hand it was off to an incredible bridal portrait session with Hope Taylor Photography and Picture Perfect Media! We started in the sunken garden, then continued on the great lawn of The Cavalier Hotel, and finished their photos up on the roof of the hotel! Any one of our brides that make the trek up there always absolutely fall in love with the views, and we fall in love with the shots!
When the fun of our bridal portrait session was over it was time to show our bride and groom their reception space and give them a little secret surprise from a family member in Hawaii that was not able to make their wedding.
Shortly after their arrival to cocktail hour we began ushering guests into our reception space where they saw a live painter preparing for their first dance!
From first dances to speeches and cake cutting this reception space was so full of happiness both in laughter and tears. It is always such a privilege to be on the outskirts of a couples wedding day when the day itself comes, and this wedding was no different!
We ended our night with a private last dance and an emphatic shaker sendoff to put one last excited moment at the end of the day for these two, and the looks on their faces were priceless!
Meredith and Mitch, I absolutely adored every moment I spent with you and your families planning your wedding! To this day I still remember “Mike gets the mic ;)” Working with you to design your wedding day was extremely rewarding, but the excitement and joy you all had on the day itself was absolutely incredible to witness. Wishing you many more years of excitement! Give Jack Boy some love for me!
